Requesting Honors (Air Force ONLY):
Ensure family and funeral home knows they must contact the nearest AD base
to coordinate honors. Internment Flags can be picked up at any post office
(family members must coordinate with chosen funeral home's funeral director,
not Casualty Affairs, Mortuary Affairs or Honor Guard)

Documents to have ready:
DD-214 (Honorable Discharge), Honors Request Form (funeral director should have this info), MEMBERS Name/Rank/Status/SSN (not service number), location and date of honors.Honor Guard

Headstone Requests: Contact Nearest VA or American Legion Office

Burning of US flags: If unserviceable, flags must be dropped off to nearest
American Legion office. Flag burning ceremony will follow.


On base personnel ONLY:
Drop unserviceable flags off with any Honor Guard
member. We'll dispose of them.

Placing shell casings from the firing party inside the US flag IS NOT
AUTHORIZED! US Flag Code clearly outlines that the folded US flag will NOT be used as a receptacle to house anything!Honor Guard

 

Priority Order for Honor Guard:

  1. Military Funeral Honors
  2. On Base Colors
  3. Off Base Colors
